An Adults Idea

Joanne and Anthony had been very happily internet dating for about six months. Neither one of them had seriously expected to meet someone online and both were constantly surprised at the depth of feeling they shared.

Neither one ever questioned their relationship either. It was generally those around them that filled that role. They were constantly bombarded with concerns. "How can you take internet dating seriously?" " Do you really think you're going to find a lasting relationship with someone you meet through internet dating?" They always received the questions with a smile and about as much patience as they could muster.

Admittedly, their relationship had been slow to get off the ground. Joanne had found Anthony to be a bit too aggressive early on. What he thought of as humour, Joanne found to be a bit overbearing. However, they both sensed that they could be good friends, even if a relationship never flourished.

Over the months, they corresponded back and forth by email several times every day. In the evenings, they would spend hours instant messaging. Through all of the conversations, they learned a great deal about one another. The best part was that their relationship grew strong without any of the physical pressures. Sure, they had exchanged a few photos but, outside of that, no one seemed to think about physical appearance or even compatibility much at all.

Then, after about four months of internet dating, Anthony typed a question to Joanne that she hadn't expected to see. "Do you think maybe I could call you?" No matter how well she knew Anthony by that time, she was still nervous. Their relationship would move to a different level if they progressed from virtual conversation to real world conversation. Still, Joanne was intrigued. She really did want to hear his voice. "Well... I don't really know," she replied. "Please honey... there is something I want to tell you and it doesn't feel right doing it in type." Finally, she agreed and gave Anthony her number. She then waited nervously while he left his computer and moved to another room to call.

The ringing phone made her jump and she tentatively said hello. She was met with a deep, soothing, almost sensual voice that replied, "Hello baby... it's me." Joanne wasn't sure but she thought her heart melted. He continued, with a whisper, "I needed to tell you this... and I wanted you to hear it. I adore you, Joanne. I really think I've fallen in love with you..." Whatever followed those words was a blur to Joanne but, in her heart, she knew in that moment that she loved him too.
